Announcing my next swim challenge, planned for 13 July: the Bristol Channel (Mid-Channel Route, appr. 27 kms).
After the English Channel (2011) and the North Channel (2013) the Bristol Channel is the last swim I need to complete the UK 3 Channel Challenge. This challenge was until very recently known as the 'Original Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming' and was pioneered by such legends as Kevin Murphy and Ted Keenan.

2022-03-16 - Ft. Lauderdale, Kinsale, Wassenaar - Op de website van IMSHOF is de eerste nieuwsbrief van 2022 gepubliceerd. Daarin een link naar informatie over hoe je aan te melden voor de inductieceremonie in Napels. Deze wordt gehouden in het historische Castel Del Ovo op 7 mei 2022. Bij deze ceremonie worden onze helden Sharon van Rouwendaal en Ferry Weertman opgenomen in deze Hall of Fame.

A man has died in Wellington after swimming across the Cook Strait.
Multiple people and groups, including Wellington Ocean Swimmers, have posted online on Saturday saying the man, identified as Nick Hobson, died after completing the swim on Friday.

Morgen gaan de 4e IISA Wereldkamioenschappen van start. Verspreid over drie wedstrijden zullen 300 zwemmers uit 30 verschillende landen het op 12 verschillende afstanden tegen elkaar opnemen. De watertemperatuur in het wedstrijdbad ligt rond de 1°C.

Waar veel mensen met dit weer een warme jas en handschoenen aantrekken, trekt Albert Stienezen zijn kleren juist uit. De 56-jarige Stienezen is in voorbereiding op het WK ijszwemmen, dat volgende maand in Polen wordt georganiseerd.

De Nederlandse delegatie voor de 10KM bij de FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series 2018 in Doha (QAT) op 17 maart bestaat uit Ferry Weertman, Marcel Schouten, Pepijn Smits, Esmee Vermeulen, Sharon van Rouwendaal (vanuit Frankrijk), Thijs Hagelstein (coach) en Patrick Martens (fysio). Een jaar geleden eindigden Sharon van Rouwendaal en Ferry Weertman als tweede in het Midden Oosten.

FINA, the governing body for many of the world’s aquatic sports, has announced an inaugural list of stops for its 2018 open water swimming series, as well as a rebrand for both the 10km series and the more open-distance meets.
The series consisting of the 10km distance, formerly known as the FINA 10km Swimming World Cup, has been renamed the FINA MArathon Swim World Series. The Grand Prix, which included typically much-longer races, often in rivers or other moving bodies of water, has been named the FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series.

Helping validate the more than $430,000 investment in drone technology by the New South Wales government last December, the first reported drone rescue at sea took place just this week in Australia.
According to media reports, a bystander saw two male swimmers, aged 16 and 17 having trouble off the coast of Lennox Head, near Byron Bay in northern NSW and called the lifeguards for help. 2017 NSW Lifeguard of the Year, Jai Sheridan, made a quick decision to put a newly-implemented lifeguard drone into the air to initiate the rescue.

The Many Meanings Of DNF
DNF usually means Did Not Finish. But DNF occasionally also means Did Not Fail or Did Not Freestyle.
Compared to the significant number of successful swims in contemporary times relative to the 20th century, DNFs seem to be only occasionally publicly shared. "People can learn from swimmers who DNF’ed. Some swimmers see their own DNFs as personal failures - these swims hurt because of all the time, energy, hopes, finances and family, work and personal sacrifices that are made to get to the start line," observed Steven Munatones.
