NH publiceert een mooi terugblik op de sportloopbaan van Ferry Weertman

Van zwemclub De Otters in Bussum tot de International Swimming Hall of Fame in Miami. Het overkwam olympisch zwemmer Ferry Weertman. Hij noemt het "de kroon op zijn werk". De geboren en getogen Naarder blikt terug op zijn zwemcarrière, die in het Gooi begon.

Hij is net terug in Nederland. "Ik heb vier uur geslapen", zegt Weertman, als NH Gooi hem spreekt. Het deert hem niet. Deze reis heeft hem goed gedaan.

Weertman was in Miami voor zijn opname in de International Swimming Hall of Fame, de hoogste erkenning in de zwemsport. En hij was daar niet alleen. Hij reisde met de wereldberoemde zwemster Ranomi Kromowidjojo.

GOOISE MEREN - De uit Naarden afkomstige openwaterzwemmer Ferry Weertman is opgenomen in de International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF). Samen met zijn vrouw en topzwemster Ranomi Kromowidjojo behoort hij tot de ‘Class of 2026’. De officiële ceremonie vond plaats op zaterdag 16 mei in Fort Lauderdale (Verenigde Staten).

De opname in de International Swimming Hall of Fame geldt als een van de hoogste onderscheidingen die een (voormalig) zwemmer kan ontvangen. Met hun benoeming voegen Weertman en Kromowidjojo zich bij een select gezelschap van internationale zwemlegendes.

Irene van der Laan heeft ooit de klassementsprijzen gemaakt met glaskunst. 

NIEUWKOOP – Voor de 22-ste keer was Nieuwkoop tijdens het Pinksterweeknd veranderd in een bruisend kunstenaarsdorp. Verspreid over 35 locaties konden bezoekers op een laagdrempelige manier kennismaken met uiteenlopende disciplines van 67 lokale en regionale kunstenaars.

He is one of Britain’s inductees into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, has completed 34 crossings of the English channel, more than any other man, and has a multitude of other marathon swims to his name.

Het Nederlandse tweetal werd afgelopen zaterdag opgenomen in de International Swimming Hall of Fame. Dat gebeurde in de Amerikaanse staat Florida, waar ze toetraden tot de 'Class of 2026'. Het is een bijzonder eervolle onderscheiding en een van de hoogste beloningen in de zwemsport. Weertman en Kromowidjojo voegen zich dan ook in een iconisch Nederlands rijtje, met onder meer Inge de Bruijn, Ada Kok, Pieter van den Hoogenband en Maarten van der Weijden.

Ranomi Kromowidjojo en Ferry Weertman zijn opgenomen in een heel bijzonder rijtje. De voormalig topzwemmers staan dankzij hun indrukwekkende prestaties in de Hall of Fame van de internationale zwemfederatie.

Gertrude Ederle was about to attempt what no woman had ever accomplished.
She was 20 years old. And everyone told her she would fail.
Five men had successfully swum the Channel since 1875. Dozens of others had tried and been pulled from the water, defeated by hypothermia, exhaustion, or the relentless currents that could push swimmers miles off course.

IMSHOF Induction & Awards Ceremony in Jersey - Class of 2025

Inducted in the first Class (1963) into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of

Fame in 1963, won his last major race in 1996, retired having won 11 Majors, and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2008.

It was then pretty quiet for a decade.

International athletes described as the "creme de la creme" of long distance swimming have visited Jersey.

Swimmers from the USA, Mexico and Croatia were among those in the island on Saturday to be inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.

The awards ceremony takes place in a different location each year when athletes gather to receive their honours, attend a conference and swim.

Swim coach Sally Minty-Gravett MBE, who hosted the event, said the top class athletes wanted to return to the island for more swimming.

Het was tijdens de Olympische Spelen in Parijs met grote regelmaat het gesprek van de dag: het water van de Seine waarin de triatleten en openwaterzwemmers hun prestaties moesten gaan leveren.
